CRE Hiring Tracker

Where CRE Firms Are Hiring

A monthly read on commercial real estate hiring demand, compiled from the public career portals of 49 leading CRE firms across brokerage, investment management, CRE finance, owner-operators, and REITs. This edition captures 164 CRE-related openings for July 2026, down from 203 in June and 214 in May — a 23% decline across the three months the series has run. The contraction is broad: every function fell except valuation and research. Brokerage and capital markets still leads at 37% of openings, but that share reflects concentration rather than strength, since its absolute count also declined. The number of firms posting any CRE role fell from 28 to 21 out of the 49 covered.

What it signals

Front-office roles still dominate, but the mix is shifting. Brokerage and capital markets holds at 37% of openings and has proved the most durable function, shedding only four roles since June. Asset management has contracted hardest — 40 openings in May down to 18 in July — and investment and acquisitions gave back 15 roles in a single month. Valuation and research is the only function to add openings. Read together, firms are trimming portfolio and deployment headcount while holding transaction capacity.

Why we track this

Hiring is a forward-looking signal. When investment managers and brokerages staff up front-office acquisitions and capital markets teams, it often precedes renewed transaction activity. This tracker is built entirely from public company career portals, giving an independent read on where institutional CRE capital is preparing to deploy — without relying on any third-party licensed dataset.

Methodology — CRE hiring tracker

49 leading CRE firms, public career portals, July 2026.

Postings are compiled from the public career portals of 49 leading commercial real estate firms spanning brokerage, investment management, CRE finance and debt, owner-operators, and REITs. Each opening is screened for CRE relevance and classified into one of five core functions: brokerage and capital markets, investment and acquisitions, asset management, CRE finance and debt, and valuation and research.

This July 2026 edition covers 164 CRE-related openings across the 21 firms with active postings, the third month of the series. Company-level counts reflect roles in the five tracked functions and may understate total headcount needs at firms hiring heavily outside those functions. Each month is a snapshot of currently-open postings rather than a flow of new requisitions, so month-over-month change reflects shifts in standing demand. Not investment advice.
